The Arts Firm was engaged by the Screen Composers Guild of Canada and partners (Songwriters Association of Canada and La Société professionnelle des auteurs et des compositeurs du Québec) to create an online resource to enable music creators to promote literacy in the new digital landscape. Combined, these organizations represent more than 1000 artist members, not to mention their engagement with general public, making for a very large impact.

The need for this project has come from the reality that creators have been squeezed to the margins in the digital era, with declining values returned to the creator. This was articulated in the SCGC’s ‘Digital Disruption’ report.

We proudly launched musiccreator.ca & créationdemusique.ca after over a year of thorough development and production. The site is a comprehensive multimedia offering designed to fill the knowledge gap that currently exists, and build digital capabilities and confidence for Canadian music creators. The site is highly customized, with over 50 easy-to-understand articles from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and others that are easily accessible and focused. The visual and audio content has been created by TAF team member and digital producer Michael Morreale to illustrate key concepts and complement written material, with over a dozen videos covering key concepts. Not to mention a ‘From the Trenches’ video series featuring composer Darren Fung, as successful Canadian music creators share valuable information, anecdotes, and career advice. The interactive Deal Gauge provides context for music creators during the negotiation process.

And perhaps most of all, this bilingual online tool is the first-of-its-kind in Canada. We are proud to be part of bringing this invaluable resource to reality.
