In April, the Government of Canada announced funding of $500 million to establish a new COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations. The Emergency Support Fund is providing additional temporary relief to support cultural, heritage and sport organizations and helping them plan for the future. The Fund helps maintain jobs and supports business continuity for organizations whose viability has been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the $500m, in Phase I $422.1m has been distributed to arts, culture and heritage organizations either through the Department or via Canada Council, Telefilm and Canada Media Fund. $2.4m remains to be shared among equity-seeking groups, organizations not currently clients of the distributing agencies, live music, community newspapers, magazines, etc. For this Phase II, portals are being opened on the Department’s website starting today.
